An Introduction To the Microsoft Purview AI Hub

Introduction

For those of use in the technology world, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become the biggest buzzword of late, as well as the hottest trend.  Microsoft is a pioneer in this field, driven by its partnership with OpenAI (the creators of ChatGPT).  They have just announced a new product called the “Purview AI Hub”, and will be reviewed in further detail in this article.

What Is It?

The technical definition of the Microsoft Purview AI Hub is as :

“Microsoft Purview to mitigate and manage the risks associated with AI usage, and implement corresponding protection and governance controls.”

In other words, it is an all-encompassing tool deployed into your Azure Cloud Environment so that you can keep a visual eye on what is happening with all of the AI based applications that run from within it.  From there, it will allow you to into compliance easily comply with the data privacy laws, of which AI is now a large part of.

It comes with the following functionalities:

• Sensitivity label creation.
• Data classification creation.
• Auditing features.
• Content search for the outputs created by your AI apps.
• eDiscovery for legal purposes.
• Retention and deletion, based upon the data privacy law(s) that your company is bound to.

The Microsoft Purview AI Hub also integrates with CoPilot, and other third party of Large Language Models (LLMs) that you may have deployed into your Azure Cloud Environment.

It also comes with a separate portal, which is called the “Microsoft Purview Compliance Portal”.  It is illustrated below:

How To Start Using It

To start using the Microsoft Purview AI Hub for your business, follow these steps:

1. Log into the Purview Portal: purview.microsoft.com
2. Log into the Purview Compliance Portal: compliance.microsoft.com
3. Once you are logged into both of the portals, do the following:
   • Go to the Analytics section.
   • Review the Get started section to see if you can further customize the Purview AI Hub for your own requirements.

4. Go to the “Recommendations” section and from there, take any of the following actions that will meet your AI Security requirements:
   • Select “View Details” to get guided assistance for AI regulations that are relevant to your business. More details can be seen at this link:

   • Select “View Details for Protect Sensitive Data Referenced In Copilot Responses. This will mark the content that has been produced by CoPilot that has not yet been assigned a particular Sensitivity Label.  More details can be seen at this link:

5. Select the “Policies Section”, so that you instantly activate default AI Policies to protect the sensitive datasets that are transmitted to your third-party vendors.
6. Select the “Activity Explorer” to view the details which have been collected from your AI Policies. For more details on the events which are kept track at this stage, access the link below:

Conclusions

At the present time, the Purview AI Hub is only available in the “Preview” mode, which means that it is only accessible to invited individuals and businesses.  But, it is highly anticipated that the it will be made available to the public by November of this year.  To get a jump start on this, contact us today!!!
